Calian teams up with Executives on Auction to host first Business-Media Auction for charity

Kanata, Ontario, March 22, 2001: Calian (TSE: CTY) -
Calian is pleased to announce its collaboration with Compassion in Action, the Air Canada Club, and Executives on Auction to raise funds and awareness for the over 1 million Canadians with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Ottawa's business media personalities are being invited to auction an invitation to join them for the afternoon of April 1st, 2001. The afternoon will include fine dining at the Air Canada Club, courtesy of Pallidium Catering Services, and networking with the region's business media in Calian's Suite at the Corel Centre for the Senators VS. Hurricanes game at 2 PM.

"Given the importance of people to Calian, this is a great opportunity to help a good cause by making more people aware of an illness that strikes so many in high tech's hard working community." Said Shaun McEwan, Calian's President & CEO. "We're glad to have the opportunity provide the venue for such a worthwhile event."

The Air Canada Club, the Corel Centre's fine dining haven, is inviting the group of media personalities and their auction guests for brunch before the game. "David Mann, the current chairman of OCRI, has fibromyalgia, and would like to help advance the understanding of what many call a hidden disease," said John Thomsen, Manager of Palladium Catering Services, "The high tech community has asked us to help raise funds and awareness for this condition, and we're pleased to help."

The 'Media-Auction' will take place on Executives on Auction, a website which facilitates high tech executive-level networking while helping to raise funds and awareness for charity. Nine invitations to join the group are up for bidding, with the winning bids going completely to Compassion in Action.

Compassion in Action's mission is to help raise funds and awareness to provide education, research and treatment models for the related physicians and over 1 million Canadians afflicted with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.
