Female Execs in the bidding

Ottawa fundraiser adds new twist to charity event.

For the right price, you can bend the ear of one of the city's business executives.

Executives on Auction, one of Ottawa's most original charity fundraisers, has launched its sixth auction and this year there's a new twist:  Auction organisers have been on a drive to get female executives on the block.

A dozen women, including Dr. Claudia Chowaniec, president of Precept, Randi Shinder, president of Dlish Fragrance, and Lynda Partner, founder of GotMarketing.com, join a list of 13 male executives and seven teams of media personalities.

Three years ago, when the auction was launched, buyers were bidding on a chance to play 18 holes of golf with one of the listed executives, but the event has ballooned since then and now non-golfers can play too.

While golf is still on the list of things you can do with your purchased executive, options now include whitewater rafting, having dinner, taking in an arts performance at the National Arts Centre, or seeing a Senators hockey game.

All the money raised through the bids goes to the charity of the individual executive's choice.

Charities chosen so far include the Salvation Army, CHEO, the Candian Museum of Nature, and FM-CFS Canada.

"I'm always happy to do what I can for CHEO," said Ms. Shinder, whose latest entrepreneurial endeavour - CLEAN Perfume - has taken Hollywood and the beauty products world by storm.

"What enticed me was the fact that I could do it for the charity of my choice, " said Debi Rosati, president of RosatiNet, a venture capital firm.

Bidding starts at noon today and closes July 17.

Those interested can find the candidates, their jobs and their charities listed at www.executivesonauction.com.

The auction takes place online and the bidding is also linked to this site.

The auction originated in Ottawa and has hosted similar charity fundraisers in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Seattle and Denver.
